Questions and Answers about Four-Dimensional (4D) ultrasound
What is Four-dimensional (4D) ultrasound? “4D” stands for four-dimensional. As far as ultrasound is concerned, 4D is the latest ultrasound technology. 4D takes three-dimensional ultrasound images and adds real time. So, you can see your baby moving in 3D.
At what point in the pregnancy should 4D ultrasound be performed?
This depends on how you would like to see your baby. Between 18 to 24 weeks, you are able to see more of the baby at once - like seeing him/her on a trampoline. After 24 weeks, babies are developing the fat layer that fills in their features so you will see more facial detail at this time. At 4D Ultrasound of Texarkana, we recommend taking advantage of the Gold Package where you never miss any of your baby's development by coming in twice during the pregnancy (first before 24 weeks and then one month later) with the added savings of a package. Call about limited time discount coupons for the Gold Package.
Agreement
4D Ultrasound of Texarkana states to parents and physicians, that services offered are NOT conducted for diagnostic purposes. Consent forms for parents are signed prior to any 4D ultrasounds. This clarifies expectations and limitations of 4D ultrasound. Parents are encouraged to consult their prenatal healthcare provider about the procedure and its assumed risks. If there is any reservation about 4D ultrasound after reviewing the consent form, then parents should not proceed with 4D ultrasound.
Will due dates be given during the 4D ultrasound?
No. This is an elective service that does not replace any part of your prenatal care. Potential clients must be under the care of a physician to use 4D Ultrasound of Texarkana. 4D Ultrasound of Texarkana urges potential clients to consult with a prenatal healthcare provider before having a 4D ultrasound done, or for any concerns arising during the pregnancy that would require you to seek care from your prenatal health provider.
How are ultrasound sessions conducted?
Once eligibility has been met-consent forms properly completed, you will be scheduled an appointment time. At that visit the sonographer will perform a 4D ultrasound session. All scans are performed by a RT (Registered Technologist) trained in sonography with over eight years of experience. Included in this package will be a DVD recording and CD-ROM which will be given to the parents.
Gender Determination
All sonographers are trained in determining gender and will give you their best opinion. The sonographer will inform parents of the baby’s gender if desired. Please be aware that sometimes the baby may not be in a position to make an absolute gender determination.
What materials will parents receive? At the end of the 4D ultrasound session, parents will receive a DVD and CD-ROM. All the images and video clips are stored onto a CD so that parents may print copies or email to family and friends. Parents will also receive color and black/white photos in a keepsake folder to cherish for a lifetime.
What guarantees are made about the images? No guarantees are made that images will be similar to those you might have seen elsewhere. Every baby scans differently, depending on its gestational age, position, amount of fluid, and mother's condition.
How safe is ultrasound?
Ultrasound has been used in obstetrics for over thirty years.
In the thirty plus years of use in medicine, there has never been a harmful effect shown by the use of ultrasound. Many women have multiple ultrasounds during their pregnancy with no negative effect on the baby. However, science is always evolving and there may be unknown effects of ultrasound that may not yet have been discovered.
